Violet "Vi" D. White, 95, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Midland Hospice House. She was born October 2, 1919 in McLouth, KS, the middle child of Flossie Vivien Trackwell and Edward Arnold Smoots.
Vi married Wilbur J. "Bud" White on October 11, 1940 in Holton, KS. He preceded her in death in May, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Donald Smoots and Darrell Smoots.
Vi is survived by their three children, Jim White (Jo Ann) of Topeka, Donna Calbeck of Wichita and Janette Anguish of Meriden, KS. She is also survived by five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
After graduating from Wild Horse High School, McLouth, KS in 1937, she moved to Topeka and began working at Christ Hospital (now Stormont Vail). During the war years while Bud was overseas, she worked at the Sunflower Army Ordinance in DeSota, KS. Vi was a consultant and District Manager for Vanda Beauty Counselor Cosmetics. She retired from the Shawnee County Appraisers Office and then worked for ten years at the Hat Box in White Lakes Mall. A staunch Republican, she was a Republican Committee Woman and worked for the Election Board for many years.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
