Virgil E. Jackson, 85, Topeka, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.
He was born June 15, 1923 in Topeka, the son of George and Carrie Snyder Jackson. Mr. Jackson worked for the VA Hospital, the Topeka Supply Depot, and for the US Postal Service for 15 years before retiring in 1983. He served in the US Navy during WW2.
He married Vivian Smelser on Sept. 27, 1976 in Lawrence. She died Nov. 12, 2007. Survivors include his brother, Thomas Jackson of Colorado Springs; three nieces, Joyce Murdick and Debbie Philliips of Colorado Springs, and Pamela Rinck of Statenville, GA. He was preceded in death by his older brother George Jackson.
Mr. Jackson will lie in state from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday at Dove Funeral Home, 4020 SW 6th Ave. Private interment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
