Virgil Smith, Jr., 93, Berryton, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014.
He was born March 2, 1921, in Osage County, KS, the son of Virgil, Sr. and Florence (Anderson) Smith.
Virgil was a member of the Overbrook United Methodist Church. He was a farmer.
On August 5, 1948 he married Ruth A. MacArthur in Topeka. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2012. Survivors include a son, Steven R. (Peggy) Smith, Overbrook; daughters, Joyce S. (Roger) Spencer, Alta Vista, KS and Vicki R. (Keith) Linder, Topeka; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and four siblings, Elsie Anderson, Osage City; Albert (Letha) Smith, Overbrook; Hayden (Alberta) Smith, Berryton, KS and Alice (Jerry) Schneider, Plano, TX.
He was preceded in death by eight siblings, Lloyd Smith, Letha Smith, Wilmer Smith, Ralph Smith, Jessie Hoy, Francis deLain, Charles Smith and Arlie Smith.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Overbrook United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
