Virginia R. Blossom, 92, of Topeka, passed away, Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
Virginia was born September 20, 1915 in El Dorado, KS the daughter of Eugene and Jessie Marty Stebbins. She moved to Topeka in 1931 and graduated from Topeka High School in 1933.
Virginia married Bert Blossom in 1937. He preceded her in death April 17, 1984. They moved from Topeka in 1942 and lived in several locations due to her husband's job with the Santa Fe Railroad. They returned to Topeka in January 1984.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City, KS. She had taught Sunday school there and was a deaconess of the Church. Virginia is currently a member of Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene Topeka. She was a member of the Diamond Chapter #37 Order of the Eastern Star in Ft. Madison, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother, Meda Stebbins, her daughter, Vicky Sowka, grandson, Michael Sowka, sister, Lila Shinn, brother, Eugene Stebbins, Jr. She is survived by two grandsons, three great grandchildren, sisters, Nina Schoenfeld, Nancy Baird, Topeka; Mary Kay Stratton, Auburn, KS, and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene and sent in care of the funeral home.
