Virginia was a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church in rural Waverly. She served on the PPR Committee and as a Eucharistic minister for Prairie View Church. She volunteered to keep the church building clean and the grounds maintained. Many have heard her and her father sing hymns together. She loved listening to Christian music at home, in her car and performed by the talented pianists Prairie View Church has been fortunate to have play over the years. She would distribute flowers for Mother's Day in honor of her mother. She gathered with friends and family for every Christmas Eve service that she was able to attend. Virginia was a child of God.
Virginia took great pride in her community. She served on the Waverly Senior Housing Board and as a Waverly City Council member. She worked many hours to help beautify the streets of Waverly with flower beds and potted plants. Some of her landscaping projects are still enjoyed around town to this day.
Virginia was also known as Mom, Aunt Ginny, Gin and Nana. She believed life was about making memories. She endeavored to do just that in every phase. Early in her life, she made memories on the family farm and spent countless hours in the timber. Later she joined in with her sons and their friends for unmentionable activities. She traveled to Europe with her close friend Carol. She developed unbreakable friendships with her cousins, who clung together through the best and worst of times. In her retirement years, she hosted epic sleepovers with her grandchildren in her home and out-of-town hotels. She oversaw gingerbread house construction in November and gingerbread house destruction in January. She supervised trips to the creek. She made sure "I Love You" never went unsaid or unshown.
Honoring Virginia's request, cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, 2:00pm at Prairie View Church.
