Virginia Ann Hubbard

August 27, 1943 — May 6, 2021

Virginia Ann Hubbard, 77, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born August 27, 1943 in Nowata, Oklahoma, the second of six children born to Robert A. and Fern A. (Thompson) Hubbard.

Virginia attended Nowata Elementary School from 1949-1951, Cleveland Elementary School from 1951 - 1955, Roosevelt Middle School from 1955-1957 and Field Kindley High School from 1957 - 1960 in Coffeyville, Kansas. In 1960, the family moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri where she graduated from Central High School in 1961. While in school, Virginia was a Girl Scout, played the violin, participated in girls' basketball, Chorus, Junior Red Cross and the Spanish Club. She also earned awards for sewing (a talent inherited from her Mom).

Virginia enrolled in a Key Punch course in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating, she was employed at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. She relocated to New York City, New York in 1969. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1974. She studied to become a computer programmer and began her career in that field at Motorola in Schaumberg, Illinois. She left Motorola to work at Ameritech and then AT&T. She was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. She retired from AT&T in 2009. After retirement, she and her sister Vertle entertained, travelled and enjoyed spending time with family and visiting casinos along the way.

Survivors include one son, Robert L. Hubbard of Topeka and her sister, Jocelyn M. Hubbard of Topeka; six nephews, one great-nephew, three nieces, six great-nieces, one great-great-niece and a host of cousins.

Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings, Vertle Lewis, Albert Hubbard, Paul Edward Hubbard and Robert Anthony Hubbard.

A memorial service will be held on June 4, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at the Apostolic Church of Topeka, 2313 SE 29th St., Topeka, KS 66605. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with arrangements.
