Virginia L. "Peggy" Martin, 92, died peacefully on December 18, 2016, at Midland Care in Topeka.
Peggy was born July 7, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Major and Pauline (Price) Shepherd.
After receiving an associate degree in 1943, she was a secretary for the Kansas City Star. In 1945, she married Walter D. "Pete" Martin, with whom she shared 54 years, many as an active Air Force wife. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Peggy was a loving wife and mother. She made many friends during her travels across the U.S. as a military wife, a position she held with graciousness, kindness, and fortitude. She also volunteered at Washburn University and Countryside United Methodist Church of Topeka, where she was a member for over 40 years.
She is survived by children, Donna M. Kahle of Osage City, Kansas and Brett D. (Laurie) Martin of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by daughter, Melinda Kay Hickerson in 2005; and son-in-law, Gale D. Kahle in 2005.
Peggy was a tribute to her husband, a perfect example of endearing motherhood to her children, and loving kindness to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family will miss her beyond measure.
