Virginia Winkler, 95, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Aldersgate Village.
Virginia was born September 14, 1917 in rural Harveyville, the daughter of Leo and Goldie (Currens) Shaw. She attended school in Harveyville, and moved to Topeka as a teenager.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, a church supper and sewing club that met together for over 60 years, and a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Virginia married Ray F. Winkler on June 13, 1938 in Glendale, CA. He died in 1991. Survivors include daughters Linda (Kenneth) Houck, Delia, Donna (William) Lacy, Yates Center; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Max D. Shaw; and nephew, Eric Shaw, both of Doylestown, OH.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Wesley Hall in Aldersgate Village. Private family burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Virginia will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
