Vivian Smelser Jackson, 89, Topeka, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at Rossville Healthcare Center.
She was born April 20, 1918 in Topeka, the daughter of William and Alice Webster Stanley.
Mrs. Jackson worked as a CNA for Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was a life long resident of the Oakland community and a member of Oakland Christian Church.
Vivian married Lyle L. Smelser on March 21, 1936. He died in March, 1968. She married Virgil E. Jackson on Sept. 27, 1976 in Lawrence. They enjoyed working in their yard and home, traveling to all 50 states and caring for much loved pets over the years. Virgil survives at home.
Other survivors include her son, Lonny L. Smelser of Topeka; three grandchildren, Shannon Fisher of Manhattan, Jason Smelser of Lawrence, and Melinda Smelser of Topeka; her guardian and daughter-in-law, Joanne Smelser of Topeka. Vivian was truly blessed by her wonderful caregivers at Rossville Healthcare Center and Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage of Topeka.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mrs. Jackson will lie in state from noon to 4:00 pm today at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
