W. Eugene Harford

W. Eugene "Gene" "Sonny" Harford, 82, of Topeka, formerly of Halstead, Kansas passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016. He was born July 31, 1933, in Chillicothe, Missouri, the son of Gerald and Etta (Teter) Harford. Growing up, he attended schools in Iola and Ottawa, Kansas and graduated from Ottawa High School.

Gene started his career as a meat cutter with Waymire's Groceries in Ottawa and finished his career with Falley's in Topeka.

Gene was a Mason and was Past Master of Euclid lodge 101 in Lyndon.

Gene married Shirley Waymire and they later divorced. He went on to marry Wanda McGinty. She preceded him in death. Survivors include his children, Teri Harford, Mike Harford, Tim Harford (Karen) and Angela Harford Horne; step-children, Kevin McGinty (Linda), Aaron McGinty (Maria), Chris McGinty (Donna) and Colin McGinty; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, his parents; his brothers, Robert and Bruce Harford and sisters, Ellen Lake, Kathryn Harford and Lorraine Lanning.

Gene was an avid golfer. He enjoyed refereeing basketball and football and traveling in his motor home.

Gene was cremated. A gathering to share memories and celebrate his life will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 10th at the Garden House at Lake Shawnee, 3720 SE Yacht Ct. Topeka, KS 66609. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House at Midland Care.
