Waldemar "Bud" Metzenthin, Jr., 91, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Midland Hospice House.
Bud was born July 19, 1931 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Waldemar and Edna (Horst) Metzenthin, SR.
He graduated from Topeka High School in 1950 and served in the U. S. Army.
He worked in his father's business, Kansas Electric Supply Company, retiring as President of the company. He also worked at AARP Tax Services.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Arab Shrine, Elks Club, Material Men, Shepherds Center, and served on the school board of USD-337.
He enjoyed woodworking, particularly making toys for his grandchildren, and carpentry, building their berm home near Hoyt. He helped start and was involved in the Bus ministry at First Lutheran Church.
Bud married Lois Anna Diepenbrock on December 14, 1951. She passed away October 11, 2020. Survivors include daughter, Carolyn (Art) Sandquist, Topeka; grandchildren, Adriene Williams, Mariel (Ross) Johnson, Peter and Patrick Sandquist; and great grandchildren, Campbell Williams, Marlo and Jovi Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Metzenthin; and infant twin daughters, Joanne and Jeanne.
Private burial will be held at the Highland Cemetery in Osage County with a Memorial service at First Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023.
