Wallace John Patch

Wallace John Patch, 92, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center.

Mr. Patch was born May 10, 1914 in Topeka, the son of Albert and Edna Atwood Patch. He attended Topeka High School and was a lifelong Topeka resident.

On Nov. 29, 1945, he married Evelyn McGinithen in Reading, PA. They divorced. Mr. Patch served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. Following his service, he owned and operated Bon-Nell Beauty Shop at 9th & Kansas Ave. for 18 years, retiring in 1968.

He was an avid golfer for over 50 years and twice made a hole-in-one during his playing days.

Mr. Patch was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church, Capital Post #1 American Legion, and Lake Shawnee Golf Club.

He dearly loved his family and his fighting spirit will forever be an inspiration.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Habluetzel of Overland Park; two sons, John Patch of Topeka and Neil Patch of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Jennifer Patch Lyon and husband, Jake, Lees Summit, MO, Chad Habluetzel, Overland Park, Jason Patch, Lawrence, Christopher Patch, Manhattan, and Kevin Patch, Manhattan; a great-granddaughter, Claire Lyon, Lees Summit, MO. He is also survived by two nieces, Shirley Adamonis, Weeping Water, NE and Margaret Rector, Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Barnum of Omaha.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Chapel with a full military burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
