Wallace William "Bill" Cooper, Jr., 88, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Brewster Place in Topeka. He was born on October 7, 1920 in Hoxie, the son of Wallace William Cooper, Sr. and Edith Mae Robinson Cooper. He graduated from Hoxie High School in 1938. After graduating, he went to work as a mechanic for Friday Andregg. He left his job to join the Army. After being medically discharged, he returned to Hoxie and began farming. The family farm was sold in 1970. He then became the appraiser for Sheridan and Thomas Counties. They moved to El Dorado Springs, MO before moving to Topeka. Bill married Gladys Williams on January 12, 1945 in Hoxie. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Anne (Don) Hunsecker of Maple Hill, Mary Yocum of Topeka, Mike (Yvonne) Cooper of China and Pat Cooper of Omaha, NE, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Yocum and three sisters, Jeanne Wade, Marie Mayo and Betty Pope-Banks. Cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
