Walter D. "Wally" Runnels Jr., 73, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Midland Hospice after a short battle with cancer.
He was born May 22, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Walter D. and Phyllis Irene Ong Runnels.
Wally retired from Price Truck Line in Topeka after 23 years of service. He always enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on cars and lawn mowers, and doing yard work. He was also a loyal Denver Broncos fan.
Wally was married to Carol Howley Manis. She survives along with step-daughters, Ashley (Rusty) Taliaferro and Rebecca Manis. Wally was also survived by sons, Darren Vice of Webb City, Missouri and Daren Runnels of Topeka; daughters, Christian Ham of Marysville, Kimberly Oliver of Topeka, and Shiann Runnels and Linsey Runnels both of Holton; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many close friends he always considered family. Wally also leaves behind his faithful dogs, Tillie, Pepper, and Hannah.
Wally was cremated and private inurnment will be in Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Dove Cremation & Funeral Service is assisting the family.
