A good Husband, Brother, Son and Friend passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008. Walter T. Waida Jr., 59, died peacefully at his home, with his wife, Joyce M. Waida at his side.
Walt was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on August 21, 1948, son to Walter F. Waida, and Joanna (Koperstynski) Waida. He was preceded in death by his Father on June 9, 2000. Walt was one of seven children, Joanne DelRocco, Frances (Fran) Taffera, and Arlene Barmore, all of New Jersey. Maryann Grau of Florida, and Edward Waida and Barbara Carroll of North Carolina. He had no children.
Walt was a 1971 Honor Society graduate, Alpha PI-MU, from Northeastern University, Boston, MA, with a BS in Industrial Engineering. His employment record included J&J of North Brunswick, NJ, J&J in Willington, IL. General Foods of Kankakee, IL, Gains Foods of Tarrytown, NY. He retired from Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. in November 2004 as Director of International Operations.
Walt was Commander Core of Cadets, and Achieved the Rank of Captain in the Army Reserves. He was an avid Golfer, a K-State Research & Extension Master Gardener, and Award Winning Gingerbread Artesian and a KC BBQ Society Judge and BBQ contest participant.
A private family celebration of his life will take place at a family reunion in North Carolina this July. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to: St. Francis Cancer Center Foundation Medication Fund, 1700 SW 7th Street, Topeka, KS 66606, Attn: Wendell Snodgrass.
