Warren Glenn Luthi left us on April 18, 2019 after a three year battle with cancer. He was born on February 2, 1972 in Topeka, KS to Warren Godfred and Carol Anne (Jones) Luthi. Glenn is survived by his father, sons Aaron and Alex Luthi, sisters Candice Brecht and Krista Derby, cousin David Luthi, nephews Mack, Thomas, Jamal and Joshua and niece Izzy as well as several great nephews and a great niece. He is also survived by his fiancée, Jess Cichy. His mother and Aunt Faith proceeded him in death.
Glenn lived life large and cherished each day after receiving his cancer diagnosis. He drew his family and friends close and traveled as much as he was able to. He and Jess visited Las Vegas, Massachusetts and Estes Park, Colorado during the last three years.
He attended all the family gatherings he could and spent time with friends singing karaoke, watching the Chiefs, the Royals, and KU basketball – his favorite teams. His long-time friend Jeff Huerter on July 20, 2017, organized a surprise trip to the Royals game in a limousine with other close friends. After tailgating with many friends, Glenn was told he and Jess would be sitting in the Royals' Crown Club section for the game. It was a thrill for them and everyone who saw them sitting behind home plate on TV. On New Year's Eve 2018, his best friend CJ Flowers revealed a tattoo he got to always remember Glenn that reads Cancer Sucks inside the Harley logo.
Glenn in his earlier days was a proficient skateboarder. He taught his sons, nephews and niece how to skateboard too. He was a Harley enthusiast and he spent time riding with his friend Pat in the last two years. He loved music and during his last days, Seuss the Rapper came to his house and performed for him and Topeka native and Austin musician Jeff Toda sent him a video of a song he dedicated to him.
Glenn attended Highland Park High School and received his GED. He received HVAC certification from Kaw Valley Vo-Tech. No matter the time of day or night he was always willing to help others with AC or heating problems. In the early 2000s, while working as a maintenance director, he lived for six years in the Charleston, SC area and loved being near the ocean.
On February 19, 2017, he proposed to Jess on bended knee in front of his dear friends. She said yes. Glenn, Jess, CJ and Lisa went to this year's Topeka St. Patrick's Day Parade. On March 28th he kept his promise to be at this year's opening day for the Royals. He truly lived until he died. Nothing was more important to Glenn than family and if he loved you, you were family.
He died at home surrounded by his sons, sisters, brother-in-law, fiancée Jess and some of his closest friends. He was surrounded by love in his final hours. It is a testament to his love of life that he was able to seize the day and make the most of the last three years. His family and friends returned his love by always staying close and being there for him.
There will never be another one like Warren Glenn Luthi. His beautiful blue eyes, booming laugh, deep voice, orneriness and ability to make friends wherever he went made him special. Glenn would not want you to mourn him – he would want you to celebrate him and the time he was here. "If you think of me and cry, forget me. If you think of me and smile, remember me." He will always be remembered.
A visitation and memorial service will be held at the Dove Southwest Chapel at 37th and Wanamaker on Thursday, April 25th starting at 6pm.
Memorial donations can be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society where he and Jess adopted their beloved kitties Gigi and Momo.
