Wayne L. Sledge, 77, Topeka, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013.

Wayne was born December 4, 1935 in Toccapola, MS, the son of Dee Reece and Mary Elizabeth (Harwood) Sledge. He graduated from Cedar Hill High School in 1954.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served 23 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement he worked for Boeing as an Industrial Engineer and also substituted as a teacher in both the Seaman and Auburn Washburn school districts.

He received a Bachelor's degree in Business and Mechanical Engineering and a Master's degree in Military Science.

Wayne married Sara Pegues Ash on July 23, 1999 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Laurence (Sara) Sledge, Tacoma, WA; grandsons, Jackson, Maxwell, Ryan; brothers, Quitman Sledge, Des Moines, IA, Harold Sledge, Altoona, IA; step-daughter, Michelle Saighman, Topeka; and step-granddaughters, Stephanie, Allison and Paige. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. Private family inurnment will be a later date in Parsons. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
