Wayne S. Engler, 88, Auburn, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at Brookside Manor, Overbrook.
He was born Aug. 27, 1919 in rural Shawnee County, the son of August F. and Mabel Shivley Engler
Mr. Engler was a lifelong farmer in the Auburn area, and was a DeKalb Seed salesman and an insurance agent for Patrons Mutual.
He was a member of Auburn Presbyterian Church, Oak and Auburn Granges, Auburn Mariners, and the Auburn Masonic Lodge. He was formerly a member of the Auburn-Washburn School Board, and had served as Chairman. He served as a director of the Pauline Farmers Co-Op.
Mr. Engler was a decorated veteran of WW2, having served with the First Armored Division in invasions of North Africa, Sicily, and on Anzio Beachhead in Italy.
He married Patricia A. Dietrich on Aug. 3, 1945 in Topeka. She died Nov. 5, 1982. He married Marno McKaughan on Aug. 11, 1986. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jerry W. Engler and wife, Belinda of Marion, and Greg R. Engler of Salina; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a brother, Glen Engler of Auburn. He also is survived by three step-daughters, Marlene Morrow and husband, Bob of Angel Fire, NM, Miadell MCKaughan, and husband, Michael Roca, and Margie Davis and husband, Chuck of Edgerton; seven step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Noel Engler and a sister, Arlene Swenson.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Auburn Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Engler will lie in state after 9 am Friday, Dec. 21 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
