Wendell H. Humphrey, 85, Topeka, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013. He was born on September 16, 1927 in Larkinburg, Kansas to Homer and Nora (Shaffer) Humphrey.
Wendell graduated from Holton High School in 1945. In 1951, he graduated from Washburn School of Business with a Bachelor's Degree. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII, an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and ordained as a Presbyterian Elder.
Wendell was a sales correspondent with Armco Steel and Contech Construction Products retiring after 40 years of employment.
On September 4, 1949, he married Ione E. Ewing in Hiawatha, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include their children, Stephen Humphrey, Kansas City; Susan (Rodney) Humphrey-Jones and Scott (Denise) Humphrey, all of Topeka; sister, Jean Marie Haag, Hays; sister-in-law, Pat Humphrey, Boonville, MO; four grandchildren, Sarah Jones, Rachel (Josh) Jones Kennedy, Erin Humphrey and Tyler Humphrey and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jacob Kennedy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, H. Dean and Richard Humphrey.
Memorial services will be 11 am Tuesday, September 18, 2013 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
