Wilbur Charles "Spanky" Wright, 84, of Topeka, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 after a short battle with cancer.
Spanky was the fourth of five children born on March 24, 1937, in Topeka, Kansas, to Lewis and Grace (Atkinson) Wright. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the young age of 8 years old. He attended Topeka Public Schools. Spanky married Delores Wilson on January 5, 1963 to which three children were born to this union.
Spanky served in the United States Air Force as a Military Policeman from 1955-1959 while stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Okinawa, Japan. After the service he was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 38 years until he retired in 1997.
Spanky was an avid bowler and bowled with the Ebonite League for many years. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends and visiting his favorite place, Las Vegas. Traveling to the casinos and playing Bingo was one of his favorite ways he enjoyed his retirement.
Spanky was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, LeRoy "Jackie" Wright; his sisters, Dorothy Wright Patterson and Karyne Wright Carter.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter, Tracey (William); his sons, Steven (Joy) and Anthony Jason (Shania); 12 grandchildren, Branden, Jerome (Airry), Nakita, Desreanna, Akilah, Autumn, Aamirah, Summer, Sabriyah, Lamiah, Sumaiyah and Ryleigh; seven great-grandchildren, Nyah, Shanya, Ace, Jaya, Skylar, Olivia, Aubrielle; his sister, Shirley Ann Wright; his brother, Kenny (Shirley) Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Honoring his request there will be no services and cremation is planned. Please send cards and condolences to Wilbur Wright's family in care of Steven Wright, PO Box 11, Olathe, KS 66051. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
