Willard A. Voigt, 94, of Tecumseh, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. He was born December 18, 1915 in Topeka,, the son of William A. and Anne E. Snyder Voigt. He graduated from Topeka High School on May 25, 1934. He received his City of Topeka Electrical License in the 1950's. He was an electrician for the Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years before retiring on July 29, 1977. He also operated his own electrical business. He was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, the Santa Fe Retirees Group, the Tecumseh Kiwanis Club and was involved with the Tecumseh Boy Scout Group.
Willard married Marjorie Evelyn Sanderson on January 31, 1942 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2006. He was also preceded in death by one son, Gary T. Voigt. Survivors include one son; Wayne A. Voigt of Topeka, one daughter; Janice A. Johnson and husband, Bob of Topeka, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Willard will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 S.E. Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, KS 66542 or the Tecumseh Boy Scout Troop No. 18 c/o the church.
