William H. "Bill" Mattingly, 77, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. He was born December 12, 1947 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, the son of Lagustus and Eunice (Coatney) Mattingly.
Bill graduated from Sallisaw High School and attended Iowa Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Sutherland Lumber Company in Wichita, Topeka and Council Bluffs, Iowa for over 23 years. He moved back to Topeka in 1989 and worked for the State of Kansas for 3 years. He then went to work as a Printer for the US Postal Service for 24 years before retiring in 2016.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, casino life and playing pool previously at Terry’s Billiards and presently at Boulevard Billiards. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Bill's opinion of a bucket list was the to do list of "this is what I want to do today" and he was fortunate enough to do most of the things that he wanted.
Bill married Janice Glendening on February 24, 1968 in El Dorado, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two children, beloved daughter, Kristin Mattingly of Topeka, son, Aaron (Rijka) Mattingly of Topeka, four grandchildren, Alyssa McWillliams (Xavier), Davon (Kourtnie Feliciano) Cushinberry, Amya Mattingly and Jayden Prato, great-grandchildren, Giana’Fe Mattingly, Malaki McWilliams, Adrianna McWilliams, Adin Lee Cushinberry, Mason Fredrick-Munsell, Amir (Amya is delivering in May) all of whom Bill will see from Heaven. Also surviving are his brothers, Leroy Mattingly, James Mattingly and Ron Mattingly.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John Frank Mattingly, sister, Opal Mosby, brother-in-law, Sherrell Mosby, his sister, Mary Lou Brewer, and his sister-in-law’s, Betty Mattingly and Dorothy Mattingly.
Bill many times expressed how thankful he was for his loving family and his many pool friends. He also expressed “when I die, miss me, but let me go. I will always be with you and will always enjoy all you from a different location.” “I will continue to watch over and enjoy all of you until we meet again.”
A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Boulevard Billiards, 4700 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66609. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
