William "Bill" Jay Sutton, 65, Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014.
Bill was born February 16, 1949 in Topeka, the son of Joseph G. and Carolyn (Morehouse) Sutton-Belden. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1967 and Washburn University in 1972, with a degree in Business Administration having an emphasis in Accounting.
Early in his career he was an auditor with Fleming and later Arthur Anderson before becoming involved with his family's business, 7-Up Bottling Co. of Topeka, for over 20 years.
He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Shawnee Country Club. He enjoyed gardening and golfing as well as being a sports enthusiast. In 1987 his home received the Topeka Beautification Association Grand Prize Award.
Bill was married to Sharon Smith-Sutton and later married Debra Waugh. Survivors include his companion of 15 years, Mindy Meacham; children, Blake (Joan) Sutton, Melissa Sutton; grandchildren, Talor, Grace and Madilyn, all of Topeka; step-children, Shawn Berkley, Wichita, Shannon Connell, Topeka; and brothers, Bob (JoAnn) Sutton, Santa Barbara, CA, and Steve (Marla) Sutton, Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Mount Hope Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Bill will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30th and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
