William C. "Bill" Orr, 83, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Aldersgate Village surrounded by his favorite nurses.
Bill was born May 19, 1929 in Bonner Springs, Kansas, the son of William and Myrtel (Smith) Orr. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School and attended Kansas State University.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
He worked as a Woodwind instrument repairman in Costa Mesa, CA for many years, and singer and big band leader for the Serenader's Orchestra in California.
He was a member of the Braille Institute.
Bill married Opal Bolton. They later divorced. From this marriage they had 2 daughters, Vicki Hodges, Long Beach, CA, and Terri Orr, Manhattan, KS. He married Shirley Lemon. They later divorced. From this marriage they had 2 daughters, Christi (Mark) Karolevitz, and Shari (Craig) Westfall, all of Topeka; and 5 grandchildren. He married Helen Schoettler on August 29, 1981. Her children, Stan Schoettler, Linda Sanchez, Lori Plum, and Steve Schoettler survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Loren Orr; sisters, Helen Orr and Wilma Baker; and wives, Opal Bolton and Helen Orr.
Bill will always be remembered for his love of music and that he never met a person who didn't become an instant friend. He was loved and will be missed by many.
Bill was cremated and no services are planned.
