William D."Bill" Gregg

William D. "Bill" Gregg, 81, of Topeka, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
He was born June 9, 1933 in Lebanon, Missouri. He was a 1951 graduate of Highland Park High School, Topeka and attended the University of Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955.
Bill served as the longest elected Shawnee County Land Surveyor, serving from 1960 until retiring in 1997 and also owned and operated a private land surveying company in Topeka.
Bill married Ruth Caroline Albrecht on November 24, 1955 in Lincolnville, KS. She preceded him in death on October 12, 1976. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Becher, Topeka and Karen Neilinger and husband, Neal, Greenwich, CT; a son, Steven Gregg, Topeka; a granddaughter, Rachel Weaver, Topeka; 5 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Audrey and Alexander Gathers, Ryan and Cadence Taylor; and his mother, Wilma Gregg, Sarasota, FL. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Jerry Gregg and a sister, Jean McCulloch.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Bill will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday, where the family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
