William H. "Bill" Miller, 81, Topeka, passed away Sat, Oct 16, at Midland Hospice. He was born Dec 6, 1928 to Rudolph K. and Dora I (Blass) Miller in Fredonia.
He married Sandra J Martin in 1952; they lived in Pittsburg, Fredonia and Topeka. She preceded him in death. Bill married Mary F. Spillman Thomas in 1976 in Topeka. Survivors include his wife Mary; children, Michael W. (Jan), Reno, NV and Lisa I Baker, Topeka; stepchildren, Leslee K (Duane) Cantrell, Mark E Thomas, James S Thomas, Topeka and Gail A. (Brian) Gunnerson of Overland Park; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Bill graduated from Fredonia High, 1946. He attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison and in 1950 he received a BS in Education from Pittsburg State. He worked for Bowlus School Supply, Pittsburg; Wilson County Citizen, Fredonia; Thatcher Inc.; Design Forum and Meeks Office Equipment, Topeka. Bill served for 5 years in the U.S. Navy Air Reserve. He was a former member of Shawnee Country Club, Shawnee Boat and Ski Club, and Elks BPOE. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus No. 534. He has been a grateful "Friend of Bill W." since Oct 1980.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm, Wed, Nov 24 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel. A Mass will be at 10:00 am, Fri, Nov 26 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hope of Atchison, 1814 N. 2nd, POB 312, Atchison, KS 66002.
