William H. "Bill" Rawlings, Jr., 59, Topeka, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010 from a malignant brain tumor at Midland Hospice House.
Bill was born February 22, 1951 in Holton, the son of William H. and Margie (McClellan) Rawlings, Sr. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1969.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1980 and in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1980 to 1994. He had been stationed in South Korea, Okinawa, Germany, Ft. Knox, KY and Ft. Riley, KS.
He was employed as the manager of the parts department at Martin Tractor, later becoming Foley Equipment, for 30 years.
He enjoyed restoring antique John Deere tractors, collecting farm toys, gardening and spending time with his dog, Nicki.
Bill married Chun Yi on December 16, 1975 in Seoul, South Korea. She survives. Other survivors include daughter, Susan (Brian) Ortega, Topeka; sisters, Linda Knoll, Collinsville, IL, Cheryl Whitney, Sebring, FL, Leona Sawyer, Topeka, Ginger Lane, Farmington, MO; step-parents, Mr. & Mrs. Junior Sawyer, Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Christie Kennedy and June Sawyer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Bill will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
