William "Lyndon" Herrman, 95, passed away at home Friday, August 27, 2010. He was born February 14, 1915 in Atica, KS. He resided in Topeka for 62 years prior to moving to Leawood, KS.
Most of Mr. Herrman's 42 year career as an educator was at Highland Park High School where he taught science from 1943-1959 then served as Director of Guidance from 1959-1979. He held many offices while at HPHS including NEA faculty representative and president of the NE Kansas Guidance Association. He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, the Highland Park Optimist Club and served as a Democratic Precinct Chairman.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Glenna Lavone Herrman and his siblings, Maxine Edgell and Rex Herrman. He is survived by his children Becki Clary, Leawood, KS, Roger Herrman, Cary, NC; grandchildren Taylor and Connor Clary, John and Elizabeth Herrman and his brother Donald Herrman of St. Simons Island, GA.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Lyndon will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the HPHS Alumni Association Scholarship Fund c/o Highland Park High School, 2424 SE California Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
