William Ralph “Bill” Hummell, 71, of Topeka, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024 peacefully surrounded by family.
He was born July 2, 1953, in Concordia, Kansas, the son of Neeland and Marjorie (Miller) Hummell. He was a 1971 graduate of Concordia High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas in 1975.
Bill was employed by the Topeka Capital Journal for 27 years as a copy editor until retiring.
He married Diane E. Demaranville on May 7, 2002 in Topeka.
Other survivors include sister Linda (Mike) Gage; sons Jon (Jennifer) Hummell and Adam (Emily) Hummell. Step children Melissa (Andy) Cohen, Jake (Shannon) Hensley, Frances (Adrian) Ghisoiu and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog Jesse.
Bill enjoyed all things KU sports and beating his grandchildren playing Wii. He enjoyed game nights with his kids and excelled in trivia games. He was an articulate and witty man who will be missed by friends and family.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 11, 2024 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
