William P. Furlong

William "Bill" Patrick Furlong, 93, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015.

He was born March 21, 1922 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of James and Frances E. (Smith) Furlong. He was a lifelong resident of Topeka and received a bachelor's degree from Washburn University. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wichita during WW II. Bill was President of General Printing and Paper Company in Topeka before leaving to start Label Supply Company in Auburn, Kansas. He retired in 1985.

Bill married Willa Mae Marx on September 20, 1946. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Judy (Bryce) Cripps, Topeka and Sue (Dave) Zimmerman, Overland Park; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Zimmerman (Thad) Dean, John Zimmerman, Blake Cripps and Alyson Cripps; and 2 great-grandchildren Shelby and Ethan Dean.

Bill was an avid woodworker and painter. Nothing pleased him more than building something for someone else. He loved gardening and photography.

A private family graveside ceremony will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be given to the Colmery- O'Neil Veterans Medical Center in care of the Voluntary Service Office, 2200 SW Gage Boulevard, CLC 4-2B, Topeka, KS 66622. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
