William R. Welchhans

William R. "Bill" Welchhans, 77, of Topeka, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017.
He was born September 2, 1939, in Topeka, the son of John and Josephine (O'Connor) Welchhans. He was a graduate of Berryton Rural High School and went on to become a journeyman electrician. He was a master electrician and retired as president from McElroy Electric in 2004. Bill served as a member of IBEW Local 226 for 58 years and was also a member of Central Church of Christ.
Bill married Ruth A. Barbee on September 16, 1960, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include son, Jon R. (Laura) Welchhans; daughter, Julienne (Bruce Zimmerman) Blake-Zimmerman; brother, John (Kay) Welchhans; and granddaughters, Maya and Hannah Blake.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Tallgrass Christian Camp c/o Central Church of Christ, 1250 SW College Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604 or Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
