William Joseph Raine

October 13, 1936 — July 28, 2018

William "Joe" Joseph Raine, 81, of Topeka, passed away July 28, 2018 at his home. He was born at Maple Hill, Kansas to Francis Cowan and Murrell Louise (Cox) Raine, the fifth of six children. He moved to Topeka at an early age and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1954.

He married Shirley Estes on October 21, 1954 in Lawrence, KS. They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where he was employed as a data processor. After they moved back to Topeka, he worked for Kansas Power & Light for many years. He retired from State Farm Insurance in 2000. After his retirement, he worked as a clerk and a "jack of all trades" for Kull's Old Town Station (armsbid.com).

He enjoyed building dirt track racing motorcycles and was the crew chief for Rainemen Racing and responsible for 6 National Championships. He was part of three generations racing at the same time! He looked forward to spending time with his racing family. He was very mechanically inclined. He could re-build anything. His family was a very important part of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of 64 years; his children: Diane Ellis (Jeff) of Grandview, MO, Kathy Raine of Topeka, and Scott Raine "Raineman" of Mayetta; 3 grandchildren: Cory Young, of Kansas City, MO, Carrie Andrews (Lance) of Spicewood, TX, Cody Raine "Rainedrop" of Mayetta, KS; 6 great-grandsons: Jackson, Landon, Maddox and Declan Andrews, Chance Young and Caylum Young; 2 sisters: Naomi Brooks, of Topeka and Jackie Powell, of Hays; 2 brothers: Lyle Raine, of Maple Hill and Steven Raine, Orange City, FL.; and many nieces, nephews and others he considered "family".

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Frank Raine and a great-granddaughter Isabella Grace Andrews.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
