William Stous, Jr.

William "Bill" Stous, Jr., 87, of Berryton, died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at a Topeka hosptial after suffering a heart attack. Bill was born on August 16, 1917 at Holton, Kansas the son of William and Nellie Meck Stous. He graduated from Holton High School. Bill worked the family farm north of Holton until moving to Topeka in 1952 and was manager of the Topeka State Hospital Dairy. Upon closure of the dairy, he became the Grounds Supervisor. He retired after 30 years of service at the hospital. He lived in the Berryton and Tecumseh community for 50 years. He was a member of the Berryton United Methodist Church. Bill lived for his great grandchildren and taking care of his grandsons catttle. On November 27, 1942, Bill married Evelyn F. Stephenson. She died in 1999 He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lucille Schultz and Katherine Haag, and a son, Richard Stous whom died in 2003. He is survived by a daughter, Betsy Abernathy and her husband Abe of Berryton, a son, Steve Stous and his wife, Sharon of Duncanville, Tx. and a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Stous of Berryton. Bill had five grandchildren, Sherri Scheideman and her husband, Kyle, Kevin Stous and his wife, Nancy, Brad Price and his wife Lori all of Berryton and Tyson Stous of Grand Prairie, Tx. and Jodi Stous of Tyler, Tx. Bill also had five great-grandchildren, Shelbi and Baylie Stous, Ashley and Quinton Price and Abby Scheideman all of Berryton. Bill is also survived by a brother, John Stous and his wife Erma of Lenexa, Ks and a brother-in-law, Harold Schultz of Topeka. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Berryton United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holton Cemetery, Holton, Ks. Mr. Stous will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berryton United Methodist Church Building Fund, 7010 S.E. Berryton Rd., Berryton, Ks., 66409 or to the Berryton Kiwanis Foundation c/o John Stambaugh, 4608 S.E. Oak Bend, Berryton, Ks. 66409. for the "Stous Memorial Park".
