William Taylor

William "Bill" Victor Taylor, 65, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, June 5th, 2004 in Topeka.

He was born Sept. 20, 1938 in New York state. He was raised in Salem, Oregon by loving foster parents. He graduated from high school in Salem and attended the University of Oregon. He lived in Lawrence for 27 years and Topeka for the past 10 years.

Bill served as a gunnery sergeant in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam war. He worked for Douglas County and later for Johnson County before retiring. He was a member of Acacia Lodge #9 AF&AM and the Scottish Rite Bodies, both in Lawrence.

He married Carol Davenport on Feb. 2, 1967 in Baldwin City. They were divorced. To this union he is survived by his son, Michael Taylor of Lawrence and Michael's family, Misty and their sons, Tobias and Ethan. Bill married Cindy Winter on Dec. 16, 1995. She survives along with her children, Elizabeth and Nevin White and their daughter, Sierra, Jolene and Justin Granger, and George Winter, all of Topeka.

Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be 11:00 am Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
