Wilda Marie Hovey, 88, Topeka, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at Manor Care Health Center.
She was born July 25, 1918 in Wakarusa, the daughter of George A. and Bertha E. Cellers Moore. She attended public schools in Auburn, and except for 10 years spent in Montrose, CO, lived all her life in the Auburn area.
Mrs. Hovey worked in the health care field most of her adult life, retiring from the Topeka/Shawnee County Health Department. She had attended The Church of the Open Door.
She married Bruce James Hovey on Jan. 27, 1940 in Moab, Utah. He died Feb. 14, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gayle M. Hovey, a son, Gary D. Hovey, and a sister, Genevieve Pagel.
Survivors include two sons, James A. Hovey, Auburn and George E. Hovey, Dodge City; a sister, Mabel Bailey, Belvue, KS; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Friday at Simmerwell Cemetery. Mrs. Hovey will lie in state from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
