Z. Meree Alumbaugh, 96, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
Meree was born April 30, 1916, in Shawnee County, KS, daughter of Lewis Francis and Zella Frances (Janes) Wilson. She graduated from Soldier High School in 1934.
Meree was united in marriage to C.B. "Burt" Alumbaugh on November 4, 1936, in Topeka.
Meree worked 23 years as a secretary for the Menninger Foundation. She was a member of East Topeka United Methodist Church, past state president of the National Secretaries Association, and a graduate of the Flo Menninger Bible Class.
Meree was known for her lime Jell-O salad, date pinwheel cookies, cherry crescent rolls, and apple and mincemeat pies.
Meree is survived by her children, Marcia Hamilton, Topeka, David (Linda) Alumbaugh, Baton Rouge, LA, and Nancy (Lawrence) Clark, Holton, seven grandchildren, Mike (Taylor) Alumbaugh, Ginger Alumbaugh, Ed (Terri) Alumbaugh, Kevin (Aimee) Alumbaugh, Diane Moss, Barbara (Scott) Hughes, and Carrie (Jon) Tholstrup, and ten great-grandchildren, Jesse and Toby Moss, Reid and Regan Hughes, Charles, Christopher, Grant, Matthew, and Brianna Alumbaugh, and Clare Tholstrup.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Robert Wilson, sister, Ellen Pearl Roberts, and son-in-law, Robert D. Hamilton.
Meree will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, Topeka, where the family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Meree's name to a charity of the donor's choice.
