Zerul Sylvester Atkinson, 77, of Topeka, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at a local hospital. He was born January 6, 1933, the son of James Delinco Atkinson and Thelma Kotis (Fisher) Atkinson.
Zerul was born and raised in Topeka, KS and graduated from Highland Park High School. He served in the U.S. Army and married Kay Earlene Meadows in 1961. They later divorced. Zerul worked for 34 years at the VA Medical Center, retiring as Foreman in charge of Housekeeping. He was an outdoor sportsman, loved hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Outdoor Sportsman Club.
He is survived by his children, Dennis Atkinson, Zerlysa Atkinson (Todd McLaury), and Kerilee Kutina (Clay); grandchildren, Ashleigh Woolbright, Kenny Kutina, Jenny Kutina, Zerul Kutina, Jerrad Kutina, Kotis Atkinson, and Ryleigh McLaury. He is also survived by his sisters, Audrey Atkinson, Atha Atkinson; nieces and nephews, Mitchlin, Tisharra, and James B., and several great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; former wife, Kay Meadows; and grandson, Kasey Kutina.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 17, 2010 at Highland Park United Methodist Church, with a visitation to be held an hour prior. Private family interment will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
