Zona Gale Tibbitts McCall, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born on July 24, 1924 in Richland, the daughter of Ted and Helen Leighty Tibbitts.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1942 and attended Washburn University. She received medical technologist training under Lattimore Laboratories at Christ Hospital. Zona Gale was employed at Santa Fe Hospital later known as Memorial Hospital for 40 years before retiring in 1986. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Alumnae Sorority, the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary No. 4319, the National Certification Agency for Medical Technologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists for Medical Technologists.
Zona Gale married Samuel A. McCall on January 12, 1968 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ted M. Tibbitts, her sister-in-law, Barbara L. Tibbitts and a nephew, Russ E. Tibbitts. Survivors include two nieces; Karen S. Becker and her daughter, Kristine Becker of Tecumseh, Roseanna M. Sterbenz and her husband, David M. Sterbenz of Tecumseh, great-nieces; Leila Breesawitz and Katrina D. Sandoval of Colorado Springs, CO., two step-daughters, five step-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial took place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Memorial contributions may be given to Shriner's Hospitals for Children c/o Arab Temple, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
