Carol Joy Lay, 87, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021.

She was born January 6, 1934, in Herington, Kansas, the daughter of Paul and Alice (Layman) Chalker. She graduated from Summersville (MO) High School and attended business school in Springfield, MO.

Mrs. Lay was previously a member of the Wanamaker Baptist Church, of Topeka.

Carol married William Sloan Lay on April 4, 1971 in St. Petersburg, FL. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2012. Survivors include her children, Pat Schultz (Don) of Topeka and Marjorie Alice Smith (Michael) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Jeni Moss, Rachel Schultz, David Schultz, William Smith, and Emma Smith; great-grandchildren Isabelle Bennett, Mason Moss, Aidyn Schultz, and Clayton Schultz. She was preceded in death by her husband William; parents; and brothers Raymond and Douglas Chalker.

Carol enjoyed sewing, dancing, gardening, camping, traveling, KU basketball, reading, and spending time with her family.

Carol was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 18th at 11:30 AM at Dove Cremation and Funeral Services Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. There will be a lunch afterwards at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
