Doris Jean Henderson, 88, of Topeka, went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 16, 2023. She was born February 27, 1935 in Clarksville, Texas, the daughter of Henry and Charlene (Nolan) Henderson.

Doris was employed by the Menninger Foundation and later the Sirloin Stockade / Coyote Canyon. She was a member of The New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church of Topeka.

Doris married Billy Joe Henderson on November 13, 1954 in Hugo, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2009. Doris was also preceded in death by her children, Billy Joe Henderson, Jr, Larry Henderson, Emma Henderson, Lizzie Banks, grand-daughter, Dorise Henderson, one great-grandson, James Edward Anderson, III, her grandmother, Cassie Nolan, her mother, Charlene Nolan Henderson Johnson, her step-father, George Johnson, her sisters, Corine Walker, Everlene Williams and her brothers, Louis Henderson and George Allen “Honey Man” Johnson.

Survivors include children, Ruby Walker of Texas, Jerry Henderson of Topeka, Delores Henderson of Topeka, Jackie Kayhill of Topeka, eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, her siblings, Henry Henderson of Topeka, Ella Mae Henderson of Topeka, Alberta “Shirley” Benn of Fort Worth, Texas, and a host of extended family and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
