Carlene Burdick Vaughn, 90, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023.

She was born April 15, 1933, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Santford and Emma (Schafer) Burdick. She graduated from Wellington (KS) High School in 1951 and attended Wichita Business College and Wichita University.

Carlene was employed by the State of Kansas and served two house representatives. In addition, she worked for the Shawnee Heights School District, managing the Tecumseh lunch room books, and finally volunteered for ten years at the Kansas Historical Society.

Mrs. Vaughn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Topeka for over 50 years.

Carlene married Marvin Jack Vaughn on May 5, 1961 in Wellington, Kansas. Survivors include their son, Richard (Nancy) Vaughn and daughter, Jennifer (Eric) Vaughn Barner; grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett Vaughn; Jessica Plunkett, Stephanie Moore, and Evan and Nicholas Barner. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brother, Stan Burdick.

Carlene was an avid card player and involved in a variety of social and philanthropic clubs across Topeka.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 8th, 2023. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Combat Air Museum, 7016 SE Forbes Avenue, Topeka, KS 66619.
