Elizabeth B. "Betty" Brannam
1932 - 2023
She was born December 3, 1932, in Fairfield, Nebraska, the daughter of Sverre John “Tilly” and Lillian E. (Weber) Haugsness. She was a graduate of St. Peter and Paul High School in Seneca.
Betty was a beautician and was also employed by Josten's Yearbook in Topeka, until retiring.
Betty was an active member of Auburn Presbyterian Church and Auburn 4-H Club serving as a Club Leader. She was also the chair of the ladies “Liar’s Club” at Thornton Place
Betty married Robert L. Brannam on February 20, 1964 in Seneca, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 22, 2011. Survivors include five children, Bruce Murray of Freemont, NE, Barb Smelter of Topeka, Mark Lewis of Odessa, MO, Jenifer Telshaw of Wakarusa, Jill Brannam of Topeka; nine grandchildren, Jenniffer, Stephanie, Brian, Rachel, Morgan, Emily, Jacob, Todd, and Scott; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Albers of Lincoln, NE, Karen Reilly of Hoschton, GA; two brothers, Bill (Betty) Haugsness of Platt City, MO, and Larry (Jan) Haugsness of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jeanette Keck; and three brothers, John, Milton, and Richard Haugsness.
Betty loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, riding horses, reading, crochet, hosting foreign exchange students, traveling, Disney Cruises, and never knew a stranger.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS.
A funeral ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Simerwell Cemetery, Wakarusa, KS.
