Mary Emma Claar Harrison, 96, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023.

She was born June 25, 1927, in Bushton, Kansas, the daughter of Leonard Thomas Claar and Anna Katrina Kieft Claar. She was a 1945 graduate of Highland Park High School and attended Washburn University in the 1960’s majoring in music.

Mary was a seamstress, church musician, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Chapter 6059 and volunteer for many organizations. She was a member of Topeka Bible Church. Her sewing business, Mary’s Sewing, served many in the Topeka community and it was a source of great pride that she could provide music lessons for her four children.

Mary married Donald L. Harrison on June 28, 1946, in Topeka. He passed away in 2015.

Survivors include children, Chaplain Tom (Alanna) Harrison of Pratt, KS, Kay Harrison Taber of Citrus Heights, CA, Shirley (Paul) Harrison Meissner of Aurora, CO, and Lynn (Julie) Harrison of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Roma (Ernie) Claar Spear of TN and Patty (Alan) Claar Barth of Topeka; grandchildren, Jamie Harrison, Amanda (Justin) Volz, Matthew Harrison, Joanna Taber, Caroline Taber Digman, Kendra (Josiah) Feuerbacher, Andrew (Jessica Bisagno) Meissner, Katelyn (Chris) Blaufuss, and Benjamin (Sarah) Harrison; great-grandchildren, Jacob (Harley), Zachary, Hadley, and Aidan Varbel, Taran Volz, Jaden Harrison, Lanah Ellis-Blaufuss, Haydn Blaufuss, Madison Feuerbacher, Gunner Harrison, Ryker Blaufuss, Nicholas Digman, and Pacey Meissner; Great-Great Grandchildren Annabelle Varbel and Allison Varbel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers George, Russell, Frank and Donald, sisters Lola, Evelyn and twins Mildred and Mabel, and son-in-law, Rev. Dennis Taber.

Mary was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm. Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor, 4712 SW 6th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66606. Private inurnment will be in Shawnee Center Cemetery in Wakarusa, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund, 4712 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66606.
