Merick Dwayne Whetstone, Sr., 28, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023. He was born February 27, 1995 in Topeka, the son of Brandie McBride and Eric Whetstone.

Merick graduated from Topeka High School in 2013 and attended Fort Scott Junior College on a football scholarship. He enjoyed playing football, wrestling and baseball. Merick was a giant Kansas City Chiefs fan as well as the University of Oklahoma. He was employed in the construction field.

Survivors include his parents, Brandie McBride of Topeka, Eric Whetstone of Topeka, four children, Meri’Cella, Merick Jr, Meri’Vae and Zaylen, his maternal grandparents, Kerry (Robin) Boardman, DeAnn (Lyle) Edwards, his paternal grandmother, Sharon Whetstone, his siblings, Jalyssa, Americka, Caiden, Dayli , his companion Ashlyn, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of extended family and friends.

Merick was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Lee Thomas.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to his mother, Brandie McBride to assist with funeral expenses.
