Jose M. Alvarez, 88, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023. He was born July 10, 1935 in Zacatecas, Mexico, the son of Ezequiel and Maxima Alvarez Del Real.

Jose was employed by Reser’s Fine Foods for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Jose married Maria Del Socorro Sanchez on December 12, 1962 in Zacatecas, Mexico. She survives. Other survivors include children, Elisa Cantoran, Antonio Alvarez, Magdalena Beltran, Maria Corpus, Maricela Arreola, Deisy Gomez, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his four siblings, Jesus, Raquel, Valentina and Leobeldina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Jose will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will take place in Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
