In Memory Of
Gladys Irene Neuhaus
1936 - 2023

Gladys Neuhaus was born on June 6, 1936 in Nortonville, Kansas. She passed in her home on Friday, August 18, 2023 in the presence of her family.

Gladys graduated from Nortonville High School in 1954 and attended Clarks Business School in Topeka the following year.

She met her husband Allen through her brother Edwin when she was 12 years old. Edwin and Allen were attending Radio School together. Allen spent Thanksgiving of 1948 with Edwin’s family in Nortonville on a whim and the rest is history.

Gladys and Allen were married on October 9, 1955 and enjoyed 61 years together until Allen’s passing in 2017. To this union they raised three children in addition to caring for numerous foster children – the epitome of a stay-at-home mom.

She entered the public work force once her children became teenagers. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield.

In retirement Gladys and Allen enjoyed many travels to all 50 states and several provinces in Canada; it was not uncommon to be gone for 30 days at a time with no specific itinerary or destination in mind. Gladys had a passion for quilting, especially embroidery quilts and has completed over 80 quilts with some more still in progress.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband Allen in 2017; her son Kenneth in 2017; her granddaughter Megan in 1989; her brothers Alfred in 1990 and Edwin in 2020 along with numerous friends along the way.

Gladys is survived by her eldest daughter Diane (husband Matt) of Golden, Colorado and youngest daughter Cheryl (partner Dexter) of Topeka; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law LaVern and several nieces and nephews with their families.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame Road in Topeka, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka, KS, 66611 or Interim Hospice, 1251 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604.
