Dr. Brian Scott Edwards
1951 - 2023

Dr. Brian Scott Edwards, 71, of Topeka, died October 9, 2023, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS after a long fight with Alzheimer’s and a short battle with cancer.

He was born on December 27, 1951, to Donald and Jean (Armstrong) Edwards in Brooklyn, New York.

Brian practiced medicine for 31 years after completing his education at Stuyvesant High School in New York City in 1969, Brooklyn College in 1973, and UAG School of Medicine in 1978. Later in life he became a passionate author and published many books, documenting his work, life, and battle with Alzheimer’s.

Brian enjoyed engaging in thoughtful discussion, his dogs, and traveling the world with his wife. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, watch the Chiefs, and enjoy a glass of wine. He wore many hats, but “dad”, and “Popeye” to his grandchildren, were his favorites.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Ginger Eaton, older brother Mark Edwards (Maryon Edwards), sons Luke Edwards (Lyndsey Edwards) and Andrew Edwards (Leslie Edwards), daughter Sarah Fernandez (Jaime Fernandez), former wife Linda Edwards, stepson Lee Eaton (Kimberly Eaton), stepdaughter Jamie Eaton, six grandsons Zachary (Sara Eaton), Jacob, and Tyler Eaton, Anders, Charles, and Fisher Edwards, one granddaughter Bethany Edwards, and two great-grandchildren Calvin and Miles Eaton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Jean, and older brother Donald.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 6th, 2023, 10:30 a.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 3916 SW 17th St., where Brian will be laid to rest per his wishes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, 4330 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Fairway, KS 66205.
