Cletus graduated from Girard High School in 1949. He resided in the Brazilton area for 26 years where he farmed which he truly enjoyed. He moved to Topeka in 1958 where he was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 22 years before retiring in 1980. He later went to work for Yellow Freight Company for 14 years before retiring in 1996. Cletus was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Board of Elders and later St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed wood working and playing golf.
Cletus married Wanda M. Bolze on April 5, 1953. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on June 12, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Wilhelmina Bennefeld in 1967, Erna Busby in 2002, Dorothy Knopp in 2009 and Edgar von Soosten in 2022.
Survivors include six children, Kathleen (Lars) Fischer, Richard von Soosten, Douglas (Patricia) von Soosten, Annette Davis, Rhonda Howard, and Corey von Soosten; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 11:30 Friday, December 22, 2023 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Evangelical Church, 901 SW Fillmore St, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
