Rodney Lee Gruver, 67, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024.

He was born August 2, 1956, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Robert Lee and Elva Lorene (Betzold) Gruver. He graduated from Scott City High School and received an associate’s degree from Colby Community College in 1976 and graduated from Northwest Kansas Area Vo-Tech in 1978.
Rodney was employed by various phone companies in northeast Kansas for 44 years, retiring in March of 2020.

Mr. Gruver was a member of the Communication Workers of America, serving as secretary for his area.

Rodney married Susan Hillery on January 14, 1978 in Colby. She survives, along with his daughters Hilaire Hawkins (Lee) of Olathe and Sarah Don Juan (Philaberto) of Smithville, MO; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters; two step-brothers; and his step-mother Connie. He was preceded in death by his brother Steven Gruver and his parents.

Rodney enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle and camping.

Rodney was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Scott City, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66604-3720.
