In Memory Of
Ryan Michael Smith
1987 - 2024

We lost our precious Ryan at age 36 on Saturday, February 17, 2024. He was born on June 11, 1987 in Topeka, KS, the son of Thomas Smith and Kimberly Huhs.

Ryan graduated from Washburn Rural High School, attended KU and Allen County Community College. He worked for a time at Dillon’s, Eagle Car Wash and was interested in computer technology, gaming and music. He played the guitar and drums. Ryan loved playing Final Fantasy, Zelda, and using his VR headset.

Ryan was an incredibly genuine and caring person, who felt the joys and the suffering of the world in a way that deeply affected him. He loved listening to and learning to play songs on the guitar that truly meant something to him. Music was his solace and his outlet, something he described as an oasis of sorts. He was fascinated by the world around him, particularly natural phenomena involving the interaction of life and matter as well as the exploration of space and the universe beyond. His favorite planet was Saturn and it’s magnificent rings.

Survivors include his parents and his brother Jason Smith (Karen) of Mayetta, KS. Jason remembers that Ryan was “a genuinely caring dude.” Ryan is also survived by his chihuahuas, Django and Gypsy. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a niece and a nephew are mourning their dear Ryan.

Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Roma Huhs, and Don and Nadine Smith. He was also preceded in death by his cousin James Robert Gucker.

Ryan will be remembered as a smart, loving, caring, beautiful, amazing soul. His sensitivity to the world around him reminds us all to take notice and be still. We reluctantly let go, and let our beloved Ryan rest in the arms of Jesus.

A visitation celebrating Ryan’s Life will be from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
